How Clarkson Construction Company is improving communications with its frontline
The Challenge:
How can we tailor our communication to meet different needs of frontline employees?
Clarkson Construction Company has a distributed workforce across different geographical locations with no company emails. That makes it very difficult for management to communicate company information to everyone at the same time. Another challenge is the generation gap. In the construction industry there are 3-5 generations of frontline employees in the workforce at one time, and their communication preferences are very different from one another.
The Solution:
Reaching construction workers on a mobile app
Clarkson Construction Company chose Speakap as their communication app and made it mandatory for all management and supervising teams to use the app, encouraging them to post using images and videos. In order to increase the number of employees using Speakap, the company created a contest, whereby everyone who signed up within the first two weeks would be added to a draw to win prizes. They also use the employee app to celebrate achievements, birthdays, new hires and anniversaries, among other things.
The Results:
Increasing employee engagement on an internal communications app
Clarkson Construction Company saw their communication scores go up in the annual employee survey. They felt it was the result of an increase in communication with their frontline around company updates. They recognized a sense of pride and accomplishment being formed among construction workers as photos were being shared and published using the employee app. In addition, the platform has brought a way to communicate with people in real time that they couldn’t otherwise reach.
